Thirty years of software that is in use

From the first database for the buoy tenders on the North Sea and the Baltic to the AI assistant in the meat trade. What is listed here runs, or ran, with real users, including roll-out, training and further development.

Specialist systems for maritime shipping and public administration

For federal agencies, local authorities and vessel traffic centres on the North Sea and the Baltic.

Buoy tender deployment planning · EPTL and EPTL-Net

An information system for planning the work of the buoy tenders that maintain the buoys and beacons on the North Sea and the Baltic. It manages stations, buoys and navigation-mark stock, appointments, the logbook and the exchange of data between the authorities and the vessels. It grew out of a practical semester at a maritime authority in East Frisia, first in Access, later as EPTL-Net with .NET and SQL Server: online and offline operation, synchronisation, chart functions, a user manual and training for the people who use it.

The project has a site of its own: www.eptl.de →

Tidal window planning · TIBES

Planning the passage of deep-draught vessels on the river Elbe. From water level forecasts, current, under-keel clearance and further input data, the program calculates suitable passage windows and presents them clearly. The current version handles several cases at once and adds simulation, archiving, a change log and data exchange between vessel traffic centres. Adaptations for other sea areas have been offered.

AIS analysis, MapViewer and speed calculation

Recording and analysis of AIS vessel data: continuous storage in SQL Server, a Windows service with a TCP/IP connection, configuration programs and web views for vessel traffic centres. Companion applications draw vessel tracks on electronic nautical charts and calculate speeds against the rules that apply in each area.

Master mariner certificate administration

A database for managing and issuing master mariner certificates and certificates of competency for a maritime authority on the Baltic: entry and search, official enquiries, statistical analysis and printing of the documents. Later additions were data export to the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency, further types of certificate, improved printing and a Windows front end of its own. By 1999 it already held around 30,000 certificates.

Scheduled maintenance

Maintenance and servicing of the installations, machinery and components of a maritime authority. Stored maintenance intervals generate follow-up dates and written work orders listing the tasks required. For navigation marks it also calculates when the lamp needs changing, from the daily hours of darkness and the maximum burning time.

Further specialist systems

Pilotage exemptions, records management and a collection of official decrees, a reporting and alarm plan, nature conservation compensation points and a proof-of-concept database for an authority at the mouth of the Elbe. A joint electronic vessel logbook for three sites on the North Sea and the Elbe has been commissioned as of November 2025.

Industry solutions and mobile business applications

For livestock and meat trading, slaughterhouses, electrical and agricultural engineering, plastics processing.

Butcher-Office · desktop and server

An industry solution for livestock and meat trading and for slaughterhouses, in daily use at a livestock and meat trading company in Lower Saxony. It covers the core processes: customers and suppliers, articles, delivery notes, invoices, payments, livestock settlement, slaughtering, batches, stock levels and traceability. Alongside that: reporting and document generation, electronic invoicing, banking integration, document recognition and an integrated AI assistant.

WPF client · REST API · ASP.NET Core · SQL Server · VB.NET and C#

Butcher-Office · mobile app

A companion to the Windows program for Android and iOS, built on .NET MAUI, using the same REST API and shared libraries. Data entry, search and lists, PDF display, export, email, map functions, a shared permission model and AI-supported conversational features.

.NET MAUI · Android and iOS · REST

Further commercial solutions

Applications and project proposals for another livestock trading company, for a business in electrical and agricultural engineering, and a costing program for windows and doors for a plastics processor. The recurring tasks: customer and article management, quotations and invoices, stock control, business analysis, interfaces.

Own apps, AI and web development

Products that grew out of my own questions and that work with AI today.

WomoPilot

Web-based motorhome route planning with AI. Users describe their trip in plain language and receive a route with daily destinations and suitable places to stay; manual planning on the map complements it. The campsite data comes from OpenStreetMap, and an AI analysis of the campsite websites opens up facilities, opening hours and prices.

Blazor · ASP.NET Core · SQL Server · mapping, geocoding and routing services

MatchReporter

For football coaches and club reporters: voice or text notes during the match, transcribed with Whisper on their own server and turned by AI into match reports, press texts and posts for social media. An app for Android and iOS, an API and an accompanying website; the first versions have been under store review since June 2026.

Websites and user training

Company websites and tourism sites for municipalities, restaurants and trades in East Frisia: from the web presence itself through search and enquiry functions to simple shops. One element runs through all of these projects: introducing and training the people who use the software, in language they understand.
